Anxiety & Depression
What is Anxiety and Depression?
Anxiety and depression are two of the most common mental health challenges that affect children/adolescents. Anxiety is often characterized by persistent worry, fear, and nervousness, which can interfere with daily activities and cause symptoms such as frequent stomachaches, trouble sleeping, and avoidance of social situations. Depression, on the other hand, involves feelings of deep sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of energy or interest in things that once brought joy. Both conditions can feel isolating and overwhelming for both children/adolescents and their parents, but with the right support, treatment, and coping strategies, the process of healing can begin.
JMA's Anxiety/Depression Program
At JMA, we have an Anxiety/Depression Program to help you and your child/adolescent manage these symptoms. As a parent, you play an important role in providing treatment to enable your child's success.
Your First Appointment
At JMA, this evaluation will include gathering a comprehensive understanding of your child's needs through in-depth conversation and questionnaires. Once a diagnosis has been made, treatment options will be discussed including referral for initiation of counseling with a therapist and possible initiation of anti-depression/anxiety medication. Follow-up will be at least every month until the symptoms of anxiety/depression begin improving. Once stable on the medication, follow-up may be at least every 3 months.
